Ryan Reynolds Joins Detective Pikachu Movie

Ryan Reynolds has signed on to lend his voice to ‘Detective Pikachu,’ the upcoming live-action ‘Pokemon’ film from Legendary, Toho and Universal Pictures.

With Rob Letterman (‘Goosebumps’) behind the camera, the film is be based on the point-and-click adventure ‘The Great Detective Pikachu,’ which follows a talking version of the iconic yellow electric mouse as he solves pokémon-related mysteries with the help of humans.

Justice Smith (‘The Get Down,’ ‘Paper Towns’) and Kathryn Newton (‘Wayward Sisters,’ ‘Big Little Lies’) will play the human characters.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ scribe Nicole Perlman and ‘Gravity Falls’ creator Alex Hirsch are providing he script that THR hears kicks into gear when the father of Smith’s character is kidnapped, forcing the teen to team up with Reynolds’ Pikachu in order to find him. Newton will play a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest.

Filming on ‘Detective Pikachu’ will commence mid-January in London.
