Russell Crowe Plans THE WATER DIVINER for Directorial Debut

Actor stepping behind camera for period drama.

Mike Fleming over at Deadline is hearing word that ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Les Misérables’ star Russell Crowe has selected ‘The Water Diviner’ for his feature directorial debut.

Based on a script Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios, the film is “set in 1919 as the stench of cordite that has engulfed the world thins, an Australian father arrives at Gallipoli to recover the bodies of his sons, only to find hope where he thought there was none.”

Crowe is aiming to have the period drama before cameras later this year with filming to take place in Australia and Turkey.

Troy Lum and Andrew Mason of Hopscotch Features and by Fear Of God Films’ Keith Rodger will co-produce.
