Russell Crowe Headlines Historical Drama IN SAND AND BLOOD

Saul Dibb,  the English filmmaker behind ‘Suite Française’ and ‘The Duchess’ is teaming up with Russell Crowe for the historical drama ‘In Sand and Blood.’

The story follows Captain James Riley, who along with his crew, was shipwrecked off the coast of Africa in 1815, captured by desert nomads, sold into slavery, and subjected to a hellish two-month journey through the bone-dry heart of the Sahara. Riley and his men found themselves tested by barbarism, murder, starvation, death, dehydration, and the hostile tribes that roamed the desert on camelback.

Ronan Bennett penned the screenplay, which is said to based off Dean King’s 2004 nonfiction book ‘Skeletons on the Zahara: A True Story of Survival.’

Crowe will next be seen starring alongside Amanda Seyfried and Aaron Paul in ‘Fathers and Daughters’ when it opens November 13, followed by the Shane Black-directed thriller ‘The Nice Guys’ in June.
