Rooney Mara Rumoured for OLD BOY

Mara to move from one remake to another?

Sources for Twitch are claiming that Rooney Mara (‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,’ ‘The Social Network,’ ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’) is the front-runner for the female lead in Spike Lee’s English-language remake of ‘Oldboy.’

‘Thor’ and ‘I Am Legend’ screenwriter Mark Protosevich will provide the screenplay which follows a man who is kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. Upon his release, he goes on a revenge-fuelled mission to seek out his captor. The remake will combine elements from Park Chan-wook 2003 original, Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya’s manga, which inspired that movie and new material.

Josh Brolin is attached to play the vengeance-seeking protagonist while Christian Bale is believed to be circling the villain role. Production on ‘Oldboy’ is slated for March 2012.

Mara will be next seen playing Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ when it hits Irish cinemas in December.
