Ron Howard and Brian Grazer Acquire Anne Rice’s TALE OF THE BODY THIEF

Vampire antihero on his way back to the big screen.

THR has word that Imagine Entertainment partners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are teaming up with writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to develop an adaptation of Anne Rice’s ‘The Tale of the Body Thief.’ the fourth book in the author’s best-selling series ‘The Vampire Chronicles.’

Set to be adapted by screenwriter Lee Patterson, the fourth book in Rice’s best-selling series, finds Lestat tormented by the debts of his vampire soul, yearning to be reborn a mortal. Wandering aimlessly across the globe, he seeks out the one being who can grant him his wish, Raglan James. The mysterious man offers Lestat the opportunity to switch bodies for a day, but after the transfer James reveals that he has no intention of switching back. Lestat, now in a human body and with the help of some friends, must track down the man and get his body back.

The character of Lestat was previously portrayed by Tom Cruise in 1994’s Neil Jordan-directed ‘Interview With the Vampire,’ and Stuart Townsend in 2002’s ‘Queen of the Damned,’ the latter combined both the second and third books in the series.
