Aussie actress circling villain role in re-imagining.

Heat Vision (via ThePlaylist) has learned that Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to for the role of Cinderella’s wicked stepmother in a live-action re-imagining of the classic fairytale.

In development at Walt Disney Pictures with Mark Romanek (‘Never Let Me Go’) attached to direct, the film was penned by Aline Brosh McKenna (‘We Bought a Zoo,’ ‘The Devil Wears Prada’), with rewrites by writer-director Chris Weitz, and follows a prince who is set for “a politically arranged marriage, until the plan is threatened when the prince meets Cinderella.”

Blanchett will next be seen in Peter Jackson’s widely anticipated ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ when it hits Irish cinemas December 14th. The Australian actress recently signed on for George Clooney’s WWII heist drama ‘The Monuments Men.’
