Robert Rodriguez is set to reteam with Dimension for his next film, the futuristic thriller “Nerverackers.”
The multihyphenate will write and direct the pic, which already has a release date of April 16, 2010.
Set in 2085, the story centers on a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society. Rodriguez has planned on making a futuristic sci-fi film for years, wanting to make a badass science fiction film noir along the lines of Blade Runner.
Most of Rodriguez’s filmography has borne the Dimension label, including “Sin City,” the “Planet Terror” half of “Grindhouse” and the “Spy Kids” franchise. Dimension topper and Weinstein Co. co-chief Bob Weinstein noted his ties with Rodriguez date back to the 1996 release of “From Dusk Till Dawn.”
