Rocket Pictures Announces GNOMEO & JULIET: SHELOCK GNOMES

Follow-up to 3D animated hit in development.

Elton John’s Rocket Pictures is moving ahead with a sequel to its 2011’s sleeper hit animation ‘Gnomeo & Juliet,’ reports Deadline. The follow-up, titled ‘Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes,’ will be penned by original scribes Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil.

The film finds Gnomeo, Juliet and their friends enlisting the help of Sherlock Gnomes, “the greatest ornamental detective,” to help investigate the disappearance of gnomes from the suburban gardens of England. Unfortunately, Sherlock is neither as brilliant nor as insightful as his human counterpart, and as the crimes against gnomanity continue, the threat to their world becomes bigger than they ever imagined.

“Action detective stories need some gnomes to liven them up, I’m sure Arthur Conan Doyle would agree,” said Rocket Pictures CEO Steve Hamilton Shaw. “It will be a fun, broad family film building on the popular foundation of the first. We believe the wide appeal of our world and characters combined with strong musical elements create a terrific franchise opportunity.”

While unconfirmed, the voice cast of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith and Patrick Stewart are expected to return.
