Robert Schwentke Set to Direct THE POISON KITCHEN

Director delves into the history of his native Germany for future project

‘RED’ director Robert Schwentke has added another project to his future slate. Variety reports that the helmer, who is work developing the comic book adaptation ‘R.I.P.D.’ with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, is attached to helm ‘The Poison Kitchen,’ a story set in the early days of the Nazi Party.

Penned by Matthew Sand (‘Ninja Assassin’), the historical thriller “tells the true story of the Muenchener Post, the Munich newspaper that waged a war for more than a decade against the burgeoning Nazi Party and its leader Adolf Hitler, who referred to the broadsheet as the “Munich Pest.”

After ascending to power in 1933, Nazi stormtroopers raided the paper, destroyed the editorial offices and printing presses and imprisoned the editorial staff, shutting down the paper for good.”

The project is expected to be an English-language production.
