Robert Carlyle Set for THE LONG MIDNIGHT OF BARNEY THOMSON

Will direct and star in humorous thriller…

Scottish actor Robert Carlyle is set to make his feature directorial debut with ‘The Long Midnight of Barney Thomson,’ a dark comedy-thriller in which he will co-star with Emma Thompson, Ray Winstone and Ewen Bremner.

Based on Douglas Lindsay’s series of novels, the Richard Cowan and Colin McLearen-scripted film follows Barney (Carlyle), a downtrodden Scottish barber who, through a series of accidental events, stumbles into the world of serial murder, allowing his dark fantasies to become reality.

‘Saving Mr. Banks’ star Thompson will play Barney’s formidable mother, who cheerfully emasculates him at every turn. THR has Winstone taking the role of detective inspector Holdall, “who has to deal with an inept homicide department while trying to solve the murders.”

A Canada and U.K. co-production, the film is set to go before camera in the first half of 2014.
