Helmer to tackle 2010 oil rig disaster.
Ric Roman Waugh (‘Snitch,’ ‘Felon’) has entered into negotiations to take the director’s chair for ‘Deepwater Horizon,’ a drama about the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil rig disaster.
Written by Matthew Sand (‘Ninja Assassin’), the film is based on The New York Times article titled ‘Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour’ by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul. Deadline reports that the drama will focus on “the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig and the final minutes up to the disaster, and the attempt of more than 100 others to stay alive.”
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are on board to produce.
