Remake of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN in Development

Redo of 1976 slasher in the works.

Variety reports that MGM is planning a remake of the 1976 horror flick ‘The Town that Dreaded Sundown.’

Directed by Charles B. Pierce, the original followed Captain J.D. Morales, a criminal investigator and Texas Ranger, who hunts for a hooded serial killer terrorizing the residents of a small town. The film was loosely based on five unsolved murders attributed to man dubbed as the Phantom Killer, who murdered five people between February and May 1946 in the city of Texarkana.

According to the trade, MGM is “asking agents for possible takes from writers” on how to reboot the film. You can check out a trailer for the original below.
