Redford Joining CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel

Acting icon in talks for superhero sequel.

Mike Fleming over at Deadline is hearing word that Oscar winner, Sundance Film Institute founder and all-round good guy Robert Redford is in talks for a role in the Marvel’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider.’

With Joe and Anthony Russo on board to direct, the film picks up where Joss Whedon’s ‘Avengers Assemble’ leaves off and follows the star-spangled hero as he continues his affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.

According to the reports, the “Sundance Kid” is being lined up to play a high ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D. The site has no further details regarding Redford’s role, but our money is on him taking the role of Colonel Rick Stoner, Nick Fury’s predecessor.

Along with Chris Evans reprising his role as Cap/Steve Rogers, ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’ will co-star Anthony Mackie (‘Hurt Locker’), Frank Grillo (‘The Grey’), Tobey Jones (‘Berberian Sound Studio’), Samuel L. Jackson (‘RoboCop’), Sebastian Stan (‘The Apparition’), Maximiliano Hernández (‘The Americans’), Emily Van Camp (‘Revenge’), Scarlett Johansson (‘Hitchcock’) and Cobie Smulders (‘Safe Haven’). ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ is expected to begin shooting in May with release pencilled in for April 2014.

Redford’s latest offering – the political action thriller ‘The Company You Keep’ which he directed and stars in— opens in Irish cinemas this June.
