RED Sequel In The Works

Summit hires Hoeber brothers to write sequel to Red.

Collider reports that Summit Entertainment has brought back writers Jon & Erich Hoeber to write a sequel to “Red.” The action comedy, which was released last October to some very mixed reviews, made €122 million worldwide. The movie’s profile got a raise recently with it’s nomination for “Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical)” at The Golden Globes.

“Red” is based on a three-issue comic book by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer, but as the Hoebers deviated quite a lot from the source material there’s little pre-written stipulations of where a second film needs to go. The Hoebers also wrote the upcoming “Battleship” movie for Peter Berg and “Man on a Ledge” which will star Sam Worthington.

A sequel to “Red” would really only work if Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and the rest of the main cast return, which is unknown at this point. The fact that Summit are working on the script doesn’t mean we are definitely getting a sequel, but if things work out we may end up getting one.
