Ben Stiller on board to produce.

NBC is reportedly developing an adaptation of Ben Stiller’s directorial debut, the 1994 comedy drama ‘Reality Bites.’

Screenwriter Helen Childress will adapt the film as a half-hour comedy series, Variety reports. Stiller, who also starred alongside Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalois and Steve Zahn, in the original film, is on board to serve as executive producer through his Red Hour Films banner.

The series will stay close to the original, with the story revolving around recent college graduate Lelaina Pierce as she struggles to make her way romantically and professionally in the recession-plagued, pre-Internet early 1990s in Houston, where she shares an apartment with slacker friends.

Stiller’s Red Hour partners Stuart Cornfeld and Debbie Liebling will also executive produce the small screen adaptation, along with Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg of Double Feature Films.
