Rachel Weisz in Talks to Play Villainess in OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Two witches down, one more to go.

Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to play the evil witch in ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful,’ Sam Raimi’s prequel to the ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ The actress would play Evanora, the powerful villainess who tries to rule the land.

Confirmed cast members for the prequel so far include Mila Kunis (‘Black Swan’) as Evanora’s younger sister, Theodora, and James Franco (‘127 Hours’) as the Oz, or if you want to call him by his full name, Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmanuel Ambroise Diggs.

Last we heard on the project, Raimi and Disney were at odds over casting for one of the sisters, with the studio wanting Michelle Williams and the director wanting Hilary Swank, it is unknown if Weisz is the compromise between the two. It is possible that Williams and Swank are being eyed for the role of the good witch, Glinda.

Other actresses on the shortlist for the role of Glinda are Kate Beckinsale, Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Keira Knightley and Rebecca Hall.
