Rachel McAdams Takes Female Lead in A MOST WANTED MAN

McAdams joins Hoffman for spy thriller.

Rachel McAdams has signed up to take the female lead alongside Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Anton Corbijn’s upcoming spy thriller ‘A Most Wanted Man.’

Adapted by Andrew Bovell (‘Edge of Darkness’) from the bestselling novel by ‘Tinker Tailor Solider Spy’ author John le Carré, the film follows Issa, a tortured part-Chechen, part-Russian man who arrives in Hamburg’s Islamic community desperate for help and with a claim to his family’s fortune. Issa soon finds his fate entwined with that of a young female lawyer and a private British banker.

Hoffman is attached to play Gunther Bachmann, the chief of a covert German spy unit who works to solve the mystery behind Issa, while THR reports that McAdams is to play “a woman who becomes involved in the international intrigue.” We think it’s safe to say that her character will be that of Annabel Richter, the “idealistic young German civil rights lawyer.”

Production on ‘A Most Wanted Man’ is expected to kick off in September in Hamburg after McAdams wraps on the Richard Curtis’ time travelling rom-com ‘About Time.’
