Proyas directs Jonathan Hoag

Alex Proyas to write and direct ‘The Unpleasant Profession Of Jonathan Hoag’.

Alex Proyas has signed to write and direct an adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s sci-fi novella The Unpleasant Profession Of Jonathan Hoag.

The story focuses on a man who realises that he cannot remember what he does for a living. He recounts his problems to a husband-and-wife detective team who subsequently uncover a series of revelations about their client.

Speaking about the project, Proyas, who previously directed I, Robot and Dark City, said: “I read this story as a kid and it really stayed with me. It’s part of my creative DNA.”

Heinlein’s science fiction novel Starship Troopers was adapted for film by Paul Verhoeven in 1997.

Proyas’s next movie, the Nicolas Cage vehicle Knowing, will debut in early 2009.
