Very good performance by Marion Cotilliard.
Very good. Is there anyone Michael Sheen can't play?
Saw this and liked it a lot, even though some of the characters were a little bit annoying. Thankful it didn't go for the everything-is-perfect ending, which I like.
Another toilet of a book to movie conversion, I'm sorry to say. So disappointed. The crucial scene to get right was where they went to pick out the dog. It would have taken only one minute and an extra bit of narrative from Goldilocks Wilson to explain it and it would have put into perspective the nature of owning such a dog as Marley. It did not do the book, or the Grogan's, any justice to be honest. Might amuse a few 6 year olds but not me, unfortunately.
Thought this was very good and performances all round were good too. Sorrowful little tale but well acted and directed and shows a family trying very hard to get back to some semblance of normality.
Good film with good comedic moments in it. I like Clive Owen too which helps =) Enoyable.
Really liked this. Joaquin is fantastic as usual and the all the roles are very well played.
Sigh... Right. First of all, I will never understand why some books cannot be fully replicated into a movie and why the story cannot be told as it is written. I care not a fig for people's interpretations. The book of My Sister's Keeper had a very tight story line and for 90% of it, this film sticks to it. But then they go and change the ending which, in the book, had a much more dramatic, much more though provoking climax than the one we were handed in this film. The film is a hard watch and it is emotionally highly charged too. Sticking to the ending given in the book would not have been out of place. Instead, it's almost like they chickened out and gave, what they deemed, an inevitable conclusion. It was a bit disappointing to see that. As for the acting and the performances, I can't complain. Everyone gives exactly what is required, though I felt the story of the older brother could have been a bit better defined. Sofia Vassilieva did an excellent and very brave portrayal of a very sick young girl. As a stand alone movie it was great. However, having read the book, I was a bit disappointed that they did not stick to what would have been a much more dramatic climax and therefore would have made it a more likely Oscar candidate too. 3.5 stars (which will show as 4) as I really liked the performances from all the actors. Just a pity about the you-know-what.
Saw this during the DIFF. Not out of choice mind you, just got random freebies thanks to Movies.ie. Lovely film and very well put together. A lot of the conversations are ad libbed so there is a very real quality to what's going on. Heartbreaking ending at the end but I was left with no sympathy for the Inge character. Would recommend it but be prepared for scenes you would not expect the elderly to be getting up to.
Good. Javier Bardem good =)
Finally got round to seeing this and I was quite impressed. I'm not a Tom Cruise fan and usually avoid any movie he is in (for some inexplicable reason my morals won't let me. Go figure) but the rest of the cast I thought too good to miss. Anyhoo, I found it suspenseful and tense enough in all the right places. Good acting too. It even brought a tear to my eye at the end. Good movie.
Very irritating. The last five minutes were good though as it had the ending I hoped it would. Ciaran Hinds and Frances McDormand are the saving graces.
