Peter Berg Goes On THE HUNT FOR EL CHAPO

Filmmaker to tell true story of drug cartel…

THR is reporting that Peter Berg (‘Lone Survivor,’ ‘The Kingdom’) is attached to direct and produce the drug cartel thriller ‘The Hunt for El Chapo.’

‘Dallas Buyers Club’ scribe Craig Borten is penning the script, based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s New Yorker article about the capture of notorious drug cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Characterized by the U.S. Treasury Department as “the world’s most powerful drug trafficker,” Guzmán was imprisoned in the early 1990s but escaped from a maximum security prison, evading capture for over a decade, running his multibillion-dollar drug enterprise from hiding.

“El Chapo” was captured February 22, 2104 in an operation conducted by the Mexican Navy, the DEA and the U.S. Marshals.

Berg will produce through his Film 44 shingle, with Keefe on board to co-produce.
