Mike Fleming over at Deadline has learned that Otto Bathurst (‘Peaky Blinders,’ ‘Black Mirror,’ ‘Criminal Justice’) has been tapped by Lionsgate to take the reins of ‘Robin Hood: Origins.’
Scripted by Joby Harold (‘Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur’), the project is a gritty take on the heroic outlaw and see Robin Hood returning from fighting in The Crusades to find that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. Hood forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands.
Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson are attached to produce, along with Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safe House Pictures. Production aims to begin early next year.
