Pablo Larra

Chilean filmmaker eyes gangster redo…

TheWrap has learned that Pablo Larraín (‘No,’ ‘Post Mortem,’ ‘Tony Manero’) is in negotiations to step behind the camera for ‘Scarface,’

Universal’s long-gesting re-imagining of the gangster flick. As previously reported, the new film will re-imagine the core immigrant story of Howard Hawks’ 1932 original and 1983’s Brian De Palma-directed iteration, telling the rags to riches story of a Mexican immigrant in the criminal underworld as he strives for the American Dream.

Paul Attanasio (‘Donnie Brasco’) penned the most recent draft of the script.

Marc Shmuger (‘We Steal Secrets’) is on board to produce alongside Martin Bregman, who produced De Palma’s iconic film.
