AMERICAN HUSTLE and GRAVITY lead, but plenty of recognition given to PHILOMENA and NEBRASKA

The nominees for the 2014 Oscars were announced this afternoon by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth. AMERICAN HUSTLE and GRAVITY led the nominations with 10 nods each, but there was plenty of love for Alexander Payne’s NEBRASKA, Spike Jonze’s HER and Steve McQueen’s 12 YEARS A SLAVE, with our own Michael Fassbender getting a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. More surprising, however, were those not nominated, including Robert Redford for ALL IS LOST, Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips and Emma Thompson for SAVING MR BANKS.
