Irish film was celebrated on a world stage today with the 2016 Oscar nominations being announced in LA. Saoirse Ronan and Michael Fassbender got acting nominations, while Irish films ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘Room’ will battle it out in the Best Picture category, and ‘Room’ director Lenny Abrahamson got a nod for Best Director. As well as this, Brie Larson picked up a nomination for her performance in ‘Room’ and Irish live action short film ‘Stutterer’ also received a nomination.

Elsewhere, critical and fan favourite ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ picked up seven nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for George Miller, and ‘The Revenant’ lead the pack with a whopping 12 nominations, while ‘Inside Out’ and upcoming Charlie Kaufman film ‘Anomalisa’ picked up nominations For Animated Film.
