Nicolas Cage (‘The Frozen Ground’), ‘Justified’ star Timothy Olyphant, Welsh actor Rhys Ifans (‘The Amazing Spider-Man’), and Joely Richardson (‘The Messenger’) have joined the cast of Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden biopic ‘Snowden.’
The film, which kicked off filming last week, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Snowden, the NSA contractor who leaked details of U.S. and British surveillance and electronic monitoring programs.
Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, and Tom Wilkinson also star.
Deadline has Cage in the role of a former U.S. Intelligence official, with Olyphant playing a CIA agent who befriended Snowden before he fled to Russia seeking asylum. No details on what roles Ifans and Richardson will take.
Pathé Films developed the project with Stone’s long-time producing partner Moritz Borman, who serves as producer with Eric Kopeloff and Philip Schulz-Deyle.
