Olga Kurylenko & Andrea Riseborough to Star Opposite Tom Cruise in Joseph Kosinski

Sci-fi looses Jessica Chastain, gains Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough.

‘Quantum of Solace’ actress Olga Kurylenko and ‘Made in Dagenham’ star Andrea Riseborough have officially landed the female leads opposite Tom Cruise in the new untitled sci-fi from director Joseph Kosinski (‘Tron Legacy’), reports Variety.

Formerly known as ‘Oblivion’ and more recently ‘Horizons,’ the film is based on Kosinski’s own Radical Publishing comic book series. Taking place in an apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds since the Earth is no longer habitable, Cruise plays Jak, an Earth-bound repairman whose job it is to work on drones that fight alien life forms. When a woman, Julia, is discovered in a crashed ship, Jak’s whole world is thrown into question.

According to THR, Kurylenko will play Cruise’s lover and partner, who tethers him to the world above the clouds while he’s doing repairwork, with Riseborough taking the role of the mysterious Julia.

Back in September it was announced the Jessica Chastain (‘The Tree of Life’) landed one of the female leads, but the actress was forced to pull out after she signing up for Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Osama bin Laden war drama.

Michael Arndt (‘Little Miss Sunshine’) is currently rewriting the script, which had drafts written by William Monahan (‘The Departed’) and Karl Gajdusek (‘Trespass’).
