Nicolas Cage is reportedly in negotiations with producer Paul LaLonde and his Stoney Lake Entertainment banner for the lead in a reboot of the ‘Left Behind’ trilogy.

Based on the hugely popular Christian-themed series of books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, the original films starred Kirk Cameron as one of the many survivors that are left behind when the Rapture befalls mankind.

Heat Vision is hearing word that $15million budgeted reboot will follow the same basic plot as the original films but will be more in the mould of a classic disaster movie. LaLaonde is penning the script with John Patus (‘Left Behind: World at War’).

Veteran stunt coordinator and second unit director Vic Armstrong (‘Joshua Tree’) is being lined up to direct the film with production set for spring 2013 in Baton Rouge.
