I have no idea why they keep doing this, ruining what are arguably some of the biggest and most beloved classics in cinematic history. Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and now this. It's getting ridiculous. I hate the sound of the on titled Oz especially. I mean from the companies behind Twilight. No thanks. As for the second one, it I had to go see a Wizard of Oz remake then I want it to be written by the writer of A History of Violence.

Why would they remake it? At least the second one that's in production is taking a different spin on it and not just a straight remake, interesting choice of script writer too, that one might be worth a look.

The big musical Wizard of Oz is the one everyone remembers but it has been remade more than a few times since then, I know for sure there was a muppet remake, and a remake with a predominently black actors. This remake seems unlikel to be a musical.

I'm as much against bad remakes as the next guy but Shakespeare wrote some classics and they deserve to be remade at least once a generation. This could be good.

The Wizard of Oz is particularly ripe for remakes since it has gone out of copyright into the public domain for all to riff and remix as they please. "Wicked" is supposed to be one particularly intesting spin on the Wizard of Oz, retelling the story from another point of view entirely.

For all their whining about copyright Hollywood loves to be able to freely plunder the public domain and at the same time buy lobbyists to campaign for even longer more draconian copyright terms so that no one can ever have the chance to do the same to their work.
