James Vanderbilt hired for SpiderMan 5 and 6

Spider-Man 5 and 6 have found their scribe!

James Vanderbilt has been hired to write Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6, reports Variety.

Production on Spider-Man 4 will begin early next year for a May 6, 2011 release. Vanderbilt wrote the first draft of the script for the fourth installment. David Lindsay-Abaire was brought on board to do a rewrite, and Gary Ross is now rewriting that script.

According to sources, director Sam Raimi didn't embrace all of Vanderbilt's ideas, but executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have. Vanderbilt has been hired to pen the fifth and sixth movies, which have an interconnected storyline.

It's unclear whether Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will be back for #5 & 6, but if they aren't, Vanderbilt's script would be the blueprint for a franchise reboot.

That sounds risky. Raimi not agreeing with the writer. Might lead to some arguments and hopefully the films will have to be cancelled.

Raimi has screwed up spiderman with the 3rd so I'm open to some1 having a different take on it

Sounds like it could go the way of fantastic four.

Although I rather enjoyed them more than spiderman 3.

I never really liked any of the Spiderman movies. As for Spiderman 5 it screams of desperation for a quick buck.

I'd be for it with a really good and interesting director. Just imagine Darren Aronofsky directing. It probably wouldn't work but I'd still see it.

again - spiderman is dead to me

i cant stand reboots! The hulk was a bit better, I preferred the first punisher, but spiderman is going to have 4 movies before this possible reboot, if 4 movies didn't work, I don't see how a reboot will make it work, especially with someone1 whos draft was already scrapped!
