New Brad Pitt flick gets the axe

Pitt and Soderbergh’s `Moneyball’ gets the axe

Brad Pitt and Steven Soderbergh’s latest picture Moneyball has been dropped.

Columbia Pictures has axed the basball drama after objecting to changes Soderbergh made to the Steve Zallian penned script.

The script is based around Michael Lewis’s non-fiction book. It follows Oakland Athletics general manager Bill Beane, who built a successful baseball team on a shoestring budget using an advanced computer system.

Soderbergh had already cast Pitt as Beane, comic Demetri Martin as talent scout Paul De Podesta, and several baseball players in the movie.

The movie is currently being pitched to other studios, including Warner and Paramount.
