Neil Burger to Write and Direct UNCHARTED DRAKES FORTUNE

Project lands new director after the departure of David O. Russell.

Variety reports that ‘Limitless’ director Neil Burger has been tapped to write and direct an adaptation of the acclaimed videogame franchise ‘Uncharted.’ Burger replaces director David O. Russell (‘The Fighter’), who left the project in May due to “creative differences.”

Along the lines of ‘Tomb Raider’ and ‘Indiana Jones,’ the franchise follows Nathan Drake, a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, who goes on quests to seek archaeological treasures. The first game ‘Drake’s Fortune’ arrived in 2007, and was followed up in 2009 with the sequel, ‘Among Thieves.’ A third game, titled ‘Drake’s Deception’ is set for release in November.

It is unclear if Mark Wahlberg is still attached to play Nathan Drake. If the actor decides to bow out, fans of the videogames will no doubt be looking for Nathan Fillion to be cast in the role, but with Burger now in the director’s chair, it is possible his ‘Limitless’ star Bradley Cooper may come on board. We shall have to wait and see.
