Neil Burger to Direct ANIMAL RESCUE

Helmer takes short story adaptation.

Neil Burger (‘Limitless,’ ‘The Illusionist’) is to take the director’s chair for ‘Animal Rescue,’ a feature adaptation of the short story by Dennis Lehane (‘Shutter Island,’ ‘Gone Baby Gone,’ ‘Mystic River’).

Adapted by Lehane himself, the crime drama follows a man trying to leave a life of crime, a pit bull, a heist gone wrong, and a killing. The story featured in the omnibus collection ‘Boston Noir,’ which the author also edited.

The film will be produced by Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark along with Mike Larocca (‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’).
