Actresses to lead Doris Lessing adaptation.
Screen Daily reports that Naomi Watts, Robin Wright, Xavier Samuel (‘Anonymous,’ ‘Twilight: Eclipse’), and James Frecheville (‘Animal Kingdom’) have signed on to lead the cast of French director Anne Fontaine’s English-language drama ‘The Grandmothers.’
An adaptation of the 2003 novella by Nobel Prize-winner Doris Lessing, the story follows two childhood friends and neighbors who each fall in love with the other’s son, to the disgust of the boys’ wives.
Fontaine (‘Coco Before Chanel’) will be directing from a screenplay by Christopher Hampton (‘A Dangerous Method,’ ‘Atonement’). Production is set to begin in February in Australia.
