Genre:

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the first chapter in the X-Men saga, unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them. The film also introduces a team of mutants, including several whose appearances in the movie series have been long anticipated. In addition, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" explores Logan's tragic romance with Kayla Silverfox. Kayla's fate triggers Logan's involvement with the ominous Weapon X program, a top secret, billion-dollar military experiment, in which Wolverine and other mutants are key players. They include Gambit, a young Scott Summers (later to be known as Cyclops); a beautiful young mutant named Emma Frost; and Deadpool, against whom Wolverine faces his ultimate challenge. While the three previous X-Men films were set in the not-too-distant future, the main story of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"--as the saga's first chapter--is set prior to the events of those pictures, in the not-too-distant past, sometime in the 1970s. But the epic sweep of the new film also encompasses flashbacks that span 150 years.

Reasonably entertaining. There's some good action in it, especially towards the end. The script made me cringe in parts. Definitely not as bad as Fantastic Four, but definitely no Dark Knight either. This movie feels like a failed opportunity to me.

Meh. Some nice action set pieces but the story was a bit shaky and cluttered with so many of years of back story they tried to cram in. For a character called Wolverine he was a bit too calm most of time.

Having been left bitter from the outings of the X-men film thus far i was thoroughly looking forward to a refreshing take on the franchise. More so considering Wolverine would be the one to lead the way. Unfortunate to say that yet again I'm left feeling slightly let down. While Origins is indeed a better film that both X-men and X-men 3, it fails to capture the seriousness brought forth in X-men 2 and tries to fit a gargantuan cast load into its 107 minute running time. I couldn't help but feel i was witnessing the third and final act of a much larger film. Personally i have to admit it's not an all together bad package. The characters are played brilliantly for the most part with a stand out job by Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth in particular. The action is non-stop while keeping at least some emotional element behind it, and the scope for future 'improved' add ons to this franchise is evident. Hopefully they can do justice to Gambit who's scenes were criminally short in Origins: Wolverine. X-men fans will love Origins: Wolverine, the majority will just enjoy this action outing, but i expect quite a few to be let down yet again. Recommended. 3 Star!
