"The Iron Lady" is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher, the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century's most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.

Our critics review will be added soon.
Although this film contains a great performance by Streep (one ofthe greatest actors of her generation) and strong supporting performances, the muddled multi-flashback story spends far too much time on Thatcher's late life mental problems.
Meryl Streep's performance elevates the movie, making it seem more important and profound than it is.
Meryl is breath taking good in this movie and JIm Boardbent plays Dennis to a T but the problem with this movie is that is doesnt go into anything in any real depth. They spend too much time in the present with Maggie in her remaining "dementia" days. I do think that its worth seeing but prehaps not paying cinema prices...a good DVD to watch!
The Iron Lady is a difficult proposition for modern audiences - how do you make what many people regard as a monster sympathetic? Well, that's what Phyllida Lloyd has done with Margaret Thatcher in this film. Yes, that's the same Phyllida Lloyd who made Mamma Mia so you know what you're getting here - something shallow and lacking any real bite. There's nothing wrong with Meryl Streep though, as she inhibits the role with her customary flair and conviction. She really is superb and I wouldn't expect any less from her. Another Oscar nomination for her is assured. The real problem here is Abi Morgan's half-baked script and the narrative structure which flits back and forth, like a greatest-hits of Thatcher's life. It just doesn't work and certainly doesn't do Thatcher's legacy justice. It's worth a look for Streep's performance alone, but the film will fade from memory fairly quickly unlike her subject. Imagine if the script was by The West Wing's Aaron Sorkin and it was directed by Stephen Frears or even Ken Loach? Now that's a Thatcher movie I'd like to see...
Great performance but poor storyline, not worth the watch
