As a massive Tintin fan, I really wanted to love this film. However I came out of the cinema for the most part satisfied, albeit slightly disappointed. First & foremost though I must say that the film is a visual treat, and Hergé's globe trotting journalist & co. are lovingly recreated using the latest mo-cap technology. It looks & sounds fantastic, the acting (for the most part) is top-notch and hell even the 3D ain't half bad, but there were some issues that tainted this otherwise great film. Jamie Bell's adequate yet otherwise uninspired portrayal of Tintin just didn't bring enough of the books character to his on-screen persona, maybe it was just the fact that Andy Serkis's pitch-perfect depiction of Captain Haddock overshadowed the lead in their scenes together, or that Spielberg neutered the lead to represent his interpretation of everyone's favourite ginger Belgian, but for some reason Tintin doesn't feel as though he was as fully fleshed out as the film's other characters e.g Cap. Haddock. Also another major issue that I had with the film, was that the film's awesome set pieces got worn quite thin nearing the film's conclusion. After some spectacular action sequences (especially those involving the flashbacks to Captain Haddock's swashbuckling ancestor & the Moroccan side-car chase scene) the final action segment felt tired & rushed, and I even found myself losing interest in what was happening on-screen. Ultimately Tintin is still a mile-a-minute roller-coaster with some great Indy-esque action & even moments of bumbling hilarity from the fantastic duo of Thompson & Thomson (Frost/Pegg), hopefully some of the film's failing will be rectified in the heavily hinted at sequel at the end.......................................................................................................................................................................3.5/ 5 Stars

Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. I skipped the 3D version and went for 2D but from the nauseating (seasick?) camera work I expect to hear about all the "freedom" the computer animation gave to the film makers. Aside from that it is a fun family film full of slapstick. The motion capture animation is still a little strange but a lot less creepy than I'd expected and except for Daniel Craig I got used it mostly. For Tintin fans the story includes: The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham's Treasure. I wasn't amazed but I'm optimistic the next film will be even better.

Excellent this was such a good movie from a childhood show, and the animation was spectacular.

A breathlessly entertaining romp, littered with eye-popping action set pieces that would simply be unthinkable - not to mention astronomically expensive - as live action.

This film is great fun. Captures the spirit of an old adventure type story. The whole things looks and works extremely well and there are some breathtaking set pieces, including one near the end of the film that needs to be seen to be believed. All round great effort.
