Movies.ie Critic Review

We’re firmly in Philip K. Dick territory here, as rising politician David Norris (Damon – and no, not that rising politician) is rehearsing his Senate bid defeat speech in the bathroom when a smooth-talking vision (Blunt) steps out of a cubicle, plants a passionate kiss on his lips, and then promptly disappears. It’s enough to make a man forget about all those strange men in black forever lurking in the background, but it’s another three years before he meets this beauty again…

THE VERDICT: The feature film debut from Ocean’s 13 and The Bourne Ultimatum co-writer Nolfi, this Philip K. Dick adaptation is one of the most tightly-wound and satisfying. Damon’s on familiar ground, and Blunt more than holds hers as the going’s get weird. Manchurian weird. Largely in the latter half a cat-and-mouse movie through the streets and wormholes of New York, Nolfi delivers the thrill of the chase without ever losing sight of the bigger, Big Brother picture (led by a scary Terence Stamp).

The concpet that the film is based on is really good but overall it's an ok film! Don't expect to see something like Inception or the Bourne series. Gets dragged out in the middle and kinf of just ends!

I liked this movie without loving it. It's enjoyable and is an interesting concept with a stellar cast but it lacked something vital to elevate it above run of the mill status and I even felt my attention waning halfway through and was guilty of looking at my watch once or twice. I'd recommend it for a rainy midweek watch but I would be sceptical of singing it's praises even though it does have more good points then bad. Cheers for the passes anyway Movies.ie!

A strong cast but very romance focused. This is great if you like romance like me, but I think it would put off those that hate cheesy love scenes as there are a few moments that will definitely appeal more to women. It wasn't complicated like people are making it out to be but it is exciting and is a lovely showcase of New York also. Sci-fi for romantics, it definitely got me. My two favourite genres, I loved it!

This was an entertaining movie....not brilliant but a good way to spend and evening :). Matt Damon is always good in films and this one is better than some of the rubbish that I have gone to see over the last year! Thanks movies.ie for this..I really enjoyed it!

While this movie is entertaining and thought provoking.... it takes itself a little to seriously attempting to out smart the viewer and trying to be more complicated than it is... and there is the fault. if the movie was more complicated with more twists and turns this would be an extreamly entertaining movie. But its not. They tried so hard but failed to mess with the views head. the movies about 30 minutes too long and has been advertised making people think its like Jason Bourne in the twilight zone... when in fact its just a long ep of the twilight zone. MMMAAATTTT DAMMMOOOOONNNN hs now been typecast that no matter what movie hes in people expect Jason Bourne and I for one can admit thats half what I expected from this movie. Entertaining but a non-thought-provoking and a little boring in places

Its a good film but not brilliant. One or two funny moments at the start. They could have done more with the plot as its a good idea but does lack some excitement. Its the type of film that you'd watch if it was on tv but there's probably better films at the cinema

Firstly this movie is advertised as Bourne meets Inception when it isn't like either or as good, don't get me wrong but just don't go in expecting an edge of seat action thriller. The premise is good saying that everything is planned out and when you miss a bus or had to back home cause you forgot your keys happens for a reason and is controlled by a group It's not a bad film and Damon and Blunt are both good in it and have good chemistry together, the movie just didn't have something to keep it exciting.

I have to agree with the last review that was left there. The actors are top classs in the film, I was expecting probably a bit too much. Don't get me wrong this is a great film and well worth a watch in the cinema. I really do like Matt Damon but please stop comparing everything to Bourne eg Bourne meets war zone, Bourne meets and so on. Thank you again nice people from Movies.ie I owe you one.

This films has some great ideas and really starts strong, and both Matt Damon and Emily Brunt are great. However, the movie loses its way half way through and never gets back on track, which is really disappointing, as what could have been a 4 or 5 star classic if they had built on the great first hour, becomes a good solid 3 star, worth a watch movie. Plus if you have seen the trailer, too much is given away in that, and might have added to the disappointment.

An entertaining flick spearheaded by convincing chemistry between Blunt and Damon. There are narrative bumps along the way, but it works up to entertaining two hours involving plenty of running and chasing. There's also an interesting insight into the world of politics as make-believe, and Damon's character being a smart, down-to-earth guy who'd bring about some change, and Blunt carries herself convincingly as a modern ballet dancer. However, David's constantly being fed the idea that his romance will stand in the way of their respective future careers, which I found too cliche. Nevertheless, definitely worth a watch for the leads' performances alone.
