The horrifying events that took place in the Hoyt family's vacation home at 1801 Clark Road on Feb. 11, 2005, are still not entirely known. Champagne. Rose petals. Candlelight. It was supposed to be a night of celebration for Kristen McKay and James Hoyt. But, after leaving a friend's wedding reception and returning to the house, everything had collapsed for the happy couple. Then came a 4 a.m. knock on the door and a haunting voice. "Is Tamara here?" "The Strangers" is a terrifying suspense thriller about a couple whose remote getaway becomes a place of terror when masked strangers invade. The confrontation forces Kristen and James to go far beyond what they think themselves capable of if they hope to survive.

Not bad, but not great. More of a suspense film that horror but it has a few jumps. It's inspiration from actual events is probably the sacriest thing. Worth seeing if there's nothing else on!!

I had high hopes for this but I was let down by the movie, not many scenes in it that will make you jump. Rent it when its on DVD.

A decent viewing experience, at least for the first hour, after that the running and hiding stops being a thriller and you just wish for the conclusion to come. That said, the active realism of the situation, or as real as a film can actually come, does spark genuine fear and subsequently freaked out most of the surrounding audience. The con's would be the mixed attempt at making the villains realistic & supernatural which dilutes the terror, and Tyler's irritating put-on whisper that she use's throughout that grates on the ears... All in all a fun night out, if communal horror is your kinda thing.

Brilliantly directed and completely defies the usual norms of horror films. The only thing that let it down was the lack of story. Terrifying nonetheless!
