The greatest adventure of all time begins with "Star Trek," the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James T. Kirk, is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock, was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before!

A great film for all part trekkies (can't speak for the hardcore) Deadly action and this film is a visual treat. Brilliant casting and acting, with all the actors carrying the characters in their own way while flawlessly incorporating the traits of the original cast, on the negative side, Leonard Nemoy's cameo gets a bit annoying and sorry if it spoils it although unlikely, the time travel story and plot just seems a bit leak and lazy. i.e. a totally unnecessary abstract incident with a snow tiger??? In all a fantastic way to bring star trek back to the masses.

This is a an excellent reworking of a classic series there will probably be some backlash from hard care fans but it is an excellent movie and could bring back new life to the star trek movie franchasie

Don't let the Star Trek title put you off, this is a very entertaining film, Trekkie or not. Definately the most entertaining blockbuster of the last few years.

I would like to say, first off, that I am not a Trekkie. Sorry y'all. I would like to follow this up, however, by saying that I thoroughly THOROUGHLY enjoyed this movie. Enough of Star Trek has seeped into popular culture that I was familiar (to a degree) with the characters and their general personalities. All of the actors picked up the characters admirably and JJ Abrams' direction finally made me forgive him for both Alias and Lost so completely jumping the shark. The story is simple yet gripping and the CGI is amazing. There appears to be a backlash from Trekkies in the US who say that the movie is too good for it to be a proper Star Trek movie, but I, for one, am not complaining. I will actually pay to see it again...

Good stuff! I've never watched the TV show - but this was a ridiculously entertaining fast-paced movie with great actors/characters and a sharp, witty script. It had a very optimistic feel to it and hopefully it is the first of many more Star Trek movies from this brilliant team.

I liked it even though there was a bit too much cheese at times!! Definitely worth a look!

If you are a fan of Star Trek, like myself, you will give this movie a very solid 9 out of 10, if not the full 10. It is absolutely mind-blowing, and touches your mind in a really special way due to your familiarity with the ship, the crew, the music. Everything is familiar, yet different. It's like remembering the taste of a sweet you last ate when you were a kid. There are plenty of references to other stuff in the Star Trek universe, and enough "in jokes" to keep hardcore fans occupied for days. I was frankly nervous when I heard they were going to rely on that old si-fi script writer "get out of jail free card", the time travel/temporal anomaly story. However, they've used it brilliantly. Not only have they allowed us to see things that we've only ever heard of from characters in the series, they've altered everything enough to make it fresh and exciting again. They've also cleverly created an alternative timeline (much like recent Bond and Batman reboots) which basically writes the creators a new artistic license to do whatever they want - and boy do they exercise the right! See if you can guess what planet gets completely annihilated, which basically nullifies half of the stories in Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager! History is changed forever, which means anyone can die at any time - adding a suspense element you usually don't get in prequels because you kinda know which characters will survive! The movie has other surprises too - references to modern culture are there, and little nods to currently popular TV si-fi exist. However, only die-hard fans will spot these. The actors all do a fine job playing their parts, without attempting to impersonate the original actors too much. My hat is off to Karl Urban (he of Lord of The Rings and Doom fame). He nails the Dr. McCoy part brilliantly, and I'm sure DeForest Kelley would have been proud of him. The ship, the Enterprise, looks great. You get a sense of size and proportion never present in the original series and there are some fantastic space battle scenes involving her. My most favourite visual effect in the whole movie was a shot of the Enterprise rising slowly out of the rings of Saturn - I nearly cried! I'll definitely need to see the movie again before saying any more, and fully intend to do just that. The film had other surprises too, in the form of viewer reactions. My girlfriend thought Spock (Zachary Quinto) was "hot". I didn't see that one coming. He is perfect for the role of Spock, but I'd never have thought anyone could make that character appealing to women! Oh, little tip, if you DO take your girlfriend/wife to this movie, let her drool over Spock as much as she wants - just ignore her if she tries to get you to explain alternative timelines. It is now my professional opinions that women simply cannot understand time travel. I pity the fool who tries as hard as I did to explain the concept - and for God's sake don't even mention "paradox" . Conclusion? Go see this movie! (girlfriend optional)

All things considered, a fairly average story in a much loved franchise. Their biggest concern was what they would say to get out of the entire history of star trek. Expect scene stealing from Urban and let downs from Pegg.

Star Trek XI. Wow. I went in as a crictic "fan-girl" of the original series, and was highly disapointted after i saw footage from the trailer [ alot of continuity issues i thought ] - BUT! I walked out of the cinema doors after STAR TREK and welll it's like reborn in and new and artistic manner. It's like a persavation of the original series, Chris Pine who plays Kirk play a flamboyant womaniser, quite alike Shatner, and humour is similar too. Spock[ im huge Spock fan :P ] was really good - Quinto resembles Nimoy, and plays Spock well too. Not to mention Leonard Nimoy! - He was awesome! lol still fighting monsters with great dignity =] he still so coool! Karl Urban is the PERFECt McCoy! Omg he's sooo like DeForest it's scary, and amazing. Zoe Saldana as Uhuru is ok, Chekov is awesome - by Anton Yelchin, who is actually Russian, Simon Pegg is a brilliant M. Scott and funny, Mr Sulu by John Cho is actually very good too - all the characters preserve their predessors efforts amazingly. The humor of the show remains and there is reference to several episodes - but you don't have to be and Trekkie to know what's going on. I brought my unknowning friend and she adored it! As for the plot - well no flaws - i had my doubt before but now it's like wow! i can't find words to actually describe how fantastically awesome this movie was without giving away the plot. The movie was so good - i'm definatley going again, and again! 5 Stars *****

Even if your not a trekkie this is a must see film. Although the impressive cgi and stunning effects are enough to impress it actually has a decent story, great dialogue and some suprisingly good performances especially by Pine, Quinto and the always likeable Pegg. Definitely one to see on the big screen
