Superstar genetic engineers Clive and Elsa specialize in splicing DNA from different animals to create incredible hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. Movies.ie Critic Review

Brody and Polley play genetic engineers couple Clive and Elsa (names tellingly taken from the cast list of Bride Of Frankenstein), who decide to ignore their superiors and press ahead with their human and animal DNA cocktails. They create a motherless child, Dren – a creation the childless Elsa is soon mothering to adulthood (Chaneac). And that's when things start getting a little weird. And sexual. And dangerous.

THE VERDICT: Somewhere between The Fly and Rosemary's Baby, with this smart-but-silly biogenetics horror romp you're never quite sure whether to laugh or cry. Gradually, director/co-writer Vincenzo Natali (Cube) lets the smart slip away, and the silly to take over. For the first hour or so though, he had me.

Splice: Unintentionally hilarious. It’s so bad and so wtf. This movie takes itself so seriously which to some extent works for the first half. Then the plot gets to a fork in the road and the writers think outside the box and head off in the tangent direction of EWWWWWWWWWWW! This movie will be remembered for one scene and one scene only. The whole audience was in pretty much continuous laughter after this pivotal scene. They used that classic line in the movie “what’s the worst that can happen” and someone shouted out “Splice 2”. Adrian Brody you will never live this down.

Such a disturbing film, there are some very questionable moments in this movie. I'd recommend watching it just to experience it.

A move with lots of potential, but is ruined by the really obvious storyline. This movie gets really weird by the end too.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. It tooked itself too seriously and the whole thing was so silly. The audience was laughing from start to finish. I couldn't believe how bad it was! The characters are so easy to dislike from the beginning. Adrian Brody shouldn't be trusted ever again! And Sarah Polley, or whoever she is, was a total disgrace. Her acting was worth of Fair City or EastEnders but not a supposedly serious film. For movies like this is why the Sci-Fi genre has such a bad fame among some people; Thank god we have filmmakers like Chris Nolan and JJ Abrams who can actually deliver greatness. Splice is possibly the worst film of 2010... at least, so far! AVOID!

Quite possibly one of the funniest films I'd seen in a while. Funny because of the terrible script, the worse acting and the fact that Adrian Brodys career seems to be in ruins.

A terrible film. The acting is atrocious and the decision making by the characters are just too stupid to be believable. It's a film that's so bad it gets funny by the end.
