Frank and April, a married couple in the 1950s, have always seen themselves as special, different, ready and willing to live their lives based on higher ideals. So, as soon as they move into their new house on Revolutionary Road, they proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era. Yet for all their charm, beauty and irreverence, the Wheelers find themselves becoming exactly what they didn't expect: a good man with a routine job whose nerve has gone missing; a less-than-happy homemaker starving for fulfillment and passion; an American family with lost dreams, like any other. Driven to change their fates, April hatches an audacious plan to start all over again, to leave the comforts of Connecticut behind for the great unknown of Paris. But when the plan is put in motion, each spouse is pushed to extremes--one to escape whatever the cost, the other to save all that they have, no matter the compromises.

Excellent. Acting is a little better than the screenplay but it is still amazing and very enjoyable and thought provoking. Must see.

Very powerful drama. Winslet is briiliant as is DiCaprio. A great exploraiton of a marriage in turmoil. A hard watch a time but worthwhile.

Sam Mendes again came back to American suburbia and it’s problems still so characteristic for all us today. Even though many compared this movie to “American Beauty”, “Revolutionary Road” is seems more mature and more true. There are no flying bags, no dreams about daughter’s school friends, no Kevin Spacey working out in the basement. Instead we have just a married couple (with children but it doesn’t really matters in the plot) who wish to follow their dreams and change their vegetative lives. Instead their relationship starts to die and not only they do not move to Paris like they dreamed, but makes more and more steps back and mistakes which lead to the tragedy. It even seems that they are being punished for the fact that they want to work out things good for themselves. America’s 1960s suburbia is shown as very fake, closed society reminding a bit of anthill where everyone has it place and if someone wants to do something different he will be punished. The only normal person seems to be mentally ill son of the main characters neighbors – Math professor – who for being honest and very truthful (in a hard way) is being sent to the margin of society. A great performance from Kate Winslet (as usual) and DiCaprio again proves that even that he looks like a boy he is a very mature and talented actor. A must see.
