In the futuristic action-thriller "Repo Men," humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called The Union. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don't pay your bill, The Union sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property -- with no concern for your comfort or survival. Remy is one of the best organ repo men in the business. But, when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company's top-of-the-line heart-replacement -- as well as a hefty debt. Balls to the wall action, bit confused in its intentions. Butched up dumbed down Blade Runner.

Whatever happened to the mindless action film? A few years ago there was an army of great action heros we could enjoy. There was Sylester Stallone, Arnold Schartzanegger, Steven Seagal and much more ruling the action genre. They went around killing bad guys, busting out cheesy lines and using puns in inappropriate situations, with no emphasis put on story or plausibility. Today Jason Statham is really the only man still flying the flag for the absurd but wonderfully entertaining action film. But although the premise for Repo Men is quite complex and may throw people off the scent this is one of those completely over the top, gripping and action packed films which have become so rare. Now I think the most important thing to say in this review is that Repo Men is NOT a remake of or sequel to Repo Man. I heard that a few times and so I was extremely surprised when I actually saw this. Repo Men actually has a very interesting story. Set in the near future the film follows repo man Remy who works for The Union. The Union are a company who can offer longer life after inventing a wide range of artificial organs from livers and hearts, to eyes or ears. But longer life comes at a price and Remy's job is to repossess these organs when people fall behind on their installments. But when he is in an accident at work Remy waked up to find himself with one of The Union products in his chest but not enough money to keep it. So he goes on the run, trailed by his ex-partner as he tries to find away to keep his new heart before it is taken back. The main problem with this film is quite simply that it's entirely unoriginal. Minority Report and Equilibrium appear to be the main influences behind this and the film feels like a merger of the two, especially the latter. It has a similar story, similar events, similar action scenes, similar characters and as a result a very similar style. Not to mention the tons of other scenes which seem to be influenced by the likes of Oldboy, Blade Runner and Monthy Phyton. And if homage was the aim they failed there as it soon became outright parody due to the absurdity of the film. Now I highly doubt that anyone, action junkies aside, will really love this film. But I think in the end you will either find this unbearably dreadful or decent enough, and I think the films twist will decide its fate. It is by no means the first time its been done, and it isn't even done very well. And to be honest it left me entirely annoyed but I was extremely impressed by their guts to do it. It does kind of make you feel like you've completely wasted your time but it suits the rest of the film perfectly. So all in all Repo Men is not very well made, not as smart as it thinks it is and will leave you extremely irritated but it is also a lot of fun. And this is one of the only things it really has going for it. If it wasn't so much fun and if it took itself too seriously then the ridiculousness of it would've ruined it and the films problems would become fatal flaws. But thanks to the laid back attitude and the purposeful implausibility of the while affair I managed to enjoy it, despite leaving a little mad.

I was disappointed with this film. After watching the trailer I thought that it might be a bit of crack but I ended up surprised at just how poor it is. The premise is good but badly executed especially in the latter parts of the film. The story is quite messy at times and they tried to be clever at the end of the film but like the rest of the film it just didnt work for me. It also tries to be quirky during some scenes but once again its not well executed. On a small plus side some of the action is good and I got a few laughs out of it but to be honest I think I might be guilty of being over generous in giving it two stars. This definately falls into the non-essential viewing category.

i have to say, it's a really really good movie. a lot of action, a lot of gore, and a lot of fun. it's not going to win any oscars or the like, and there are moments of ridiculousness (like the ear upgrade), but it is a great storyline and a few really good twists. it is most definately and enjoyable and exciting excursion, and great to see jude and forest in a new light...! gruff and buff and tooled up! :)
