Genre:

A proud, born-and-bred Jersey girl, Stephanie Plum’s got plenty of attitude, even if she’s been out of work for the last six months and just lost her car to a debt collector. Desperate for some fast cash, Stephanie turns to her last resort: convincing her sleazy cousin to give her a job at his bail bonding company…as a recovery agent. True, she doesn’t even own a pair of handcuffs and her weapon of choice is pepper spray, but that doesn’t stop Stephanie from taking on Vinny’s biggest bail-jumper: former vice cop and murder suspect Joe Morelli - yup, the same sexy, irresistible Joe Morelli who seduced and dumped her back in high school. Nabbing Morelli would be satisfying payback - and a hefty payday - but as Stephanie learns the ins and outs of becoming a recovery agent from Ranger, a hunky colleague who’s the best in the business, she also realizes the case against Morelli isn’t airtight. Add to the mix her meddling family, a potentially homicidal boxer, witnesses who keep dying and the problem of all those flying sparks when she finds Morelli himself…well, suddenly Stephanie’s new job isn’t nearly as easy as she thought.

ONE FOR THE MONEY (USA/12A/91mins)

Directed by Julie Anne Robinson. Starring Katherine Heigl, Jason O’Mara, Daniel Sunjata, John Leguizamo, Sherri Shepherd, Debbie Reynolds.

THE PLOT: Blah! Blah! Blah! Handbag.

THE VERDICT: Okay, here’s what I suggest we do – we set up a direct debit payment on as many accounts as we can, paying Katherine Heigl €1 a week for the next year so that she can take some time out and think about what she’s done. To cinema. To us. To a once-promising career that suffered a quick turnaround once she decided to piss all over her breakthrough movie, Knocked Up. To be fair, that was a decent warning sign.

This woman has made nothing but piss for the last few years – The Ugly Truth, with Gerard Butler; Killers, with Ashton Kutcher; Life As We Know It, with raving heterosexual Josh Duhamel; New Year’s Eve, with just any desperate eejit willing to sign on for a sequel-of-sorts to Valentine’s Day. The reviews for this adaptation of Liz Brixius’s much-loved chick lit outing have been typically scathing. So much so, there was no press screening here. RATING: 1/5

    Onionhead

This is an entertaining movie and Heigel is perfect as Stephanie Plum. Okay, official critics, it's not Citizen Kane, but it isn't pretending to be...can't you see the difference between art and entertainment? Nice to see a movie where the women is the hero

Director Julie Anne Robinson never finds a convincing tone and ruins everything with over-emphatic comedy reaction shots and a music track that keeps telling us how funny everything is (it isn't).
