Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. On Oscar well deserved to Colin Firth and an all-round enjoyable film.

I was all set to dislike this film purely on the grounds that it seemed to have been made as "oscar bait". It is guilty of that but thanks to the script and actors actually being oscar-worthy I found myself enjoying this low-key but engaging film quite a bit. Firth does a fine job of playing the impeded prince, he's haughty and a smidge arrogant but also quite relatable, you really feel his frustration and despair at not being able to meet the demands of his position and those of his father. Geoffrey Rush excells as the therapist who treats him for his affliction. Helana Bonham Carter has little to do but thankfully does a nice job and makes for a welcome change to her kooky goth roles she seems to be more known for. I liked the period detail but a minor gripe would be that some of the sets looks a tiny bit "stagey" for my liking. A fine movie that entertains and informs.
