Our critics review will be added soon.
Hunger is not about the rights and wrongs of the British in Northern Ireland, but about inhumane prison conditions, the steeled determination of IRA members like Bobby Sands, and a rock and a hard place.
Excellent performances but a very hard film to watch, well worth a look but don't watch if you want an easy going movie as it is pretty gruesome in places.
Great film
If you like art-house films this will tickle you :)
Excellent film but be prepared.Probably the most disturbing film ever made about the troubles in the North of Ireland.A must see.
Atmospheric, but very slow-moving and off-putting in parts. The approx 10min scene with the guard washing the urine off the floor was totally unnecessary. Some characters were not developed enough and the movie takes a long time to get started with the main narrative, i.e. the hunger strike. Good performances from the cast, however.
Tough.
Excellent. I don't really have the words to do it justice. Just go see it.
A very well made film. Fassbender is a very talented actor
As harrowing as it should be. Difficult subject matter demands a difficult film. You get to see the humanity behind the headlines. What it what it was like to carry out these things day to day. Also, on a technical level I believe it's a huge success. I was worried the avant garde parts may remove you from the story. I was very wrong. The flock of birds coming from Sands chest being my favourite. The part with the man washing the urine out was the films lowest moment. I may rethink that. I'm not sure what it's function was. Although certainly not a good enough excuse for anyone to miss it. Go go go go go go go.
I can't praise it enough. Be warned though, don't go to see it with a hangover and a large bucket of popcorn like I did cos it's a harrrrrd watch.
