Just wasn't great! had it's moment but was too generic and not funny enough to get past the lack of good storyline.
very good movie..a must see
this was a really good moive very funny
brilliant... i didn't expect it to be as good as i thought it would be.. couldn't stop laughing the whole time watching it.
It was ok, another chick flick with some good laughs
Pretty bad film. While it had a couple of decent moments, overall it was a bit boring and predictable. Although Anna Faris is hot :)
Have to say I didn't have high expectations going into this film but was pleasantly surprised. Anna Faris plays her ditsy blonde Playboy Bunny character with a certain amount of innocence & sweetness that she is extremely likeable. There was a very good supporting cast with the usual haunts from past Adam Sandler movies (not surprising as it wasw a Happy Madison production). Cute, fluffy but also not too bad for the pre-teen girls.
The House Bunny Quirky, cute, cuddly, adorable, and a pure comic delight is how I'd summarise The House Bunny! It was written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, who also wrote hilarious chick-flicks like Clueless, Ella Enchanted and Legally Blonde. The House Bunny is another guilty pleasure for us girls, where females are the centre of attention, all the clothes are tight, pink and fluffy, tops are low and skirts are skimpy. We get treated to a perfect blend of a real feel-good story about friendship combined with humour and a very talented cast. And it certainly is very very funny, so if you fancy an entertaining and uplifting night at the flicks, I'd recommend you give it a go, not only does it have scenes that will leave you in consistent titters, even the soundtrack is cheesy and irresistibly catchy…had me singing all the way home! The wonderful Anna Faris plays the sweet natured Shelley Darlingson, a playboy bunny who spends her days shopping and watching movies in a Playboy mansion owned by Hugh Hefner. She unexpectedly finds herself all alone when she’s asked to leave the mansion because, at 27, she’s too old. Finding herself homeless and forced to make her own way in the cruel real world, she stumbles upon Zeta Alpha Zeta sorority—a decrepit house filled with all manner of awkward, geeky girls who have been deemed losers by the rest of their college. The Zeta house won't survive if they can't attract new pledges so Shelley persuades them to adopt her and she sets about reinventing the girls as fabulous babes, a seemingly impossible task. With Shelley’s flirting skills, and designer wardrobe, she is determined to gain popularity for the clueless misfits and more importantly she wants to help them survive - she must teach them how to look good, how to party and how to win men. She sets about the makeover with joy and determination as she is a true expert at all these things! As she guides them from social outcasts to seriously hot babes, she learns some important lessons about life, inner beauty and true friendships. What appealed to me the most was the fabulous portrayal of Shelly by the multi talented Faris who is undeniably goodlooking but also a gifted actress. Some critics have called her the 'Queen of intelligent stupidity' and with good reason. She's superficial and bubbleheaded, but doesn't have a malicious bone in her perfect body. She manages to be ultra charming, sexy, entertaining and yet dimwitted. Her performance is undoubtedly remarkable. Ok, she's a tad airheaded and superficial but she's harmless and her attempts to flirt with the opposite sex are so goofy that she wins our hearts. The character of Shelley is so insanely lovable, endearing and hilariously funny of course. One of her most amusing habits is growling people’s names as a way of remembering them, this had everyone in fits. In the film we witness her transformation from a ditsy, looks-obsessed young bunny into an informed and wise young girl who comes to realise that outward appearances don't signify true beauty, true beauty comes from within. She is, without a doubt, one of the best modern day comediennes. The cast that surrounds Faris is terrific. Emma Stone plays Natalie, the most 'normal' of the oddballs and the ringleader, who’s social skills leave a lot to be desired. She has a big crush on one of the locals and has to be taught how she should make an impression on him. Shelley comes to the rescue here and together they make a good team. The rest of the girls are such a ludicrous sight, in need of a vast wardrobe, hair and body makeover. There is Mona a sulky, over-pierced feminist; Harmony who’s pregnant (we do wonder how that came about!); Joanne a girl stuck in a massive brace; Carrie May - a big masculine and unfriendly girl ; and Lilly who’s so shy that she doesn’t even speak to her friends. The performances are great and keep us hooked. My favourite is Natalie who forms a tight bond with Shelley and they have good fun together. I also liked the performance of Shelley's love interest, a very nerdy 'Oliver' who works at a nursing home and is affably played by Colin Hanks. Shelley is smitten with him, but how can a former House Bunny win the heart of a smart, honest, upright pillar of the community? This relationship isn't deep or developed but it's amusing. Shelley's attempts to seduce him keep us laughing. One minute she is a dumb bimbo blond and the next she aims to be an intellectual know it all. The romance with the patient and down-to-earth chap teaches her that some guys actually prefer an open, honest, natural girl than a shallow, plastic, and looks-obsessed flirt. One of my favourite scenes was when Shelley tried to recreate the famous Marilyn Monroe image of standing on a manhole and allowing the heat to blow up her dress. It badly backfires as the heat burns her legs and she's left writhing in pain. She believes he must be only guy on earth who is unmoved by her attempts to woo him. He'd rather know what she thinks and feels than all the skimpy, cleavage-revealing outfits in the world. After another failed date, she amusingly exclaims to her friends, "He didn't fall for any of my tricks." Despite some negative reviews that this film has received and the silly trailer, I was a big fan. The film is not perfect, the plot is rather superficial and there are no twists, turns or surprises. The film didn't break any new ground and yet it manages to be very watchable and refreshing. I think the reason for this is the remarkable performances by Anna Faris and her co-stars. Shelley is endearing, she's funny, sexy and charming. She provides good eye candy for the fellows and at the same time, you can't help laughing at her. This combination proves to be a winner. The House Bunny made me laugh out loud and gave me a great night out. The laughs come quickly and often, mainly centered on Shelley's naivete in the real world outside her Bunny Mansion, the social ineptitude of the group of misfits and the humour that comes from the relationship Shelley is trying to build with Oliver. It blends a feel-good story about true friendship with tongue-in-cheek humour and a very talented cast. This film is a lighthearted one, for sure but it's peppy, it's lively and there are morals to be learnt too. For me, it was one of the brightest and sparkliest comedies I have seen this year!
Predictable verging on the biggest pile of crapola I have ever seen, but I love Anna Faris and this one star is for her.
Who rated this 5 stars? barely 2 stars are deserving
