Based on the top-selling, award-winning videogame franchise, the "Hitman" is a genetically-engineered, elite assassin known only as Agent 47. His hallmarks are a lethal grace, unwavering precision, and resolute pride in his work. But even 47 couldn't anticipate a "random equation" in his life of exactitude: the unexpected stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a mysterious Russian woman. Agent 47 is a mysterious and complex man of profound contradictions: He was bred from the world's deadliest criminals, but raised by an exiled brotherhood of the Church. His very existence seems to be a sin, but he wages a quiet war to rid the world of evil. He's brilliant, charismatic and charming--yet reveals little about himself, has no name and is known only by the last two digits of a barcode tattooed on the back of his head.

The only thing Hitman succeeds in doing is confirming what common sense could tell you without spending millions of dollars on a special-effects-filled movie: A series of novels is much richer source material than a series of video games.

Pretty blooming awful movie, the action is ok, the lead is wooden as hell, the only redeeming feature is that Olga Kurylenko gets a bit nekkid ... otherwise, awful!

I have to say I really enjoyed this, it does exactly what it says on the tin, goood turn your mind off action flick, with a strong performance from Olyphant. One of the better game adaptations, well worth a look if you like a good mindless action flick that requires very little in the line of thinking :)

Based on the hugely popular video game of the same name Hitman focuses on oddball genetically-engineered assassin Agent 47. The film begins showing groups of bald children receiving tattoos of bar codes and being taught how to use guns and martial arts. We then move forward to see Agent 47 all grown up where he is told his next target, Russian President Mikhail Belicoff, publicly. He does so but soon after the media are calling it a graze and that the president is fine, despite the clear head shot by Agent 47. He is then told there was a witness he must kill, Nika Boronina. As he comes up to her on the street however she does not recognise him and so decides not to kill her. Then there is a failed attempt on his life and it becomes clear Agent 47 has become involved in a political conspiracy. Soon he is being hunted by FBI and Interpol agents. As the conspiracy takes some interesting turns Agent 47 tries to keep himself and Nika alive and eventually takes the implausible approach by killing everyone. At he end he leaves Nika with a vineyard (some childhood dream or something) and I assume continues to murder people from afar. Hitman, despite not being the worst video game adaptation is not even nearly the best. It had the potential to be so much better but it just didn't happen. Director Xavier Gans really approached this all wrong. He went for the Bourne-esque approach but didn't get it right and he would've been better doing something new with this. The action sequences are not as thrilling as promised and all the other scenes were very basically shot. The trailer was actually made better than the film. There are plenty of directors out there who would have been more than willing to accept this project and who could have done a mush better job than Gans. There was nothing special about the direction and the film deserved better care and a much better attempt. The grit and style of the game was never once brought onto the screen and so immediately the film was off to a poor start. The stars of the film actually did better than the script should've let them. The script tried to give Agent 47 emotional depth and make him more relatable but this meant that the plot was unoriginal and the action scenes dull. The dialogue was the same that we've seen many times before and the kidnapper and kidnapped falling in love story has been done so many times before, and has been done better. I'm starting to think that the writer has not actually played the game as none of Agent 47's characteristics come forward. Timothy Olyphant was the best thing to come form this film. He brilliantly portrayed the cold-hearted killer Agent 47. He was eerie, humorous and terrifying all in one and made the best out of the poor dialogue. He should definitely try some more challenging roles as with this and Die Hard 4.0 he has proved beyond doubt that he is phenomenal as the bad guy (lets face it Agent 47 is a bad guy). Olga Kurylenko was also very memorable, but it wasn't so much thanks to her performance so much as her looks. I'm not taking anything away from her display, it was great but when someone like her stars alongside bald psychopath Agent 47 you can't help but be happy she's there. Being a fan of Prison Break I loved the addition of Robert Knepper to the cast. He is a fantastic actor and I would love to see him star in more films in the future, which is very possible. So all in all Hitman is a relatively okay but severely disappointing adaptation. It had potential and could've been amazing but unfortunately a stunning cast were let down by a boring director and unoriginal writer. They failed to bring any of the features of the film which made it so famous to the big-screen and as a result we saw a very ineffective and poor film. The game definitely deserved a better effort than this as the end product was messy, dull, over-complicated and unspectacular.
