Movies.ie Critic Review

Everyone is running scared – including the evil Voldermort (Fiennes), despite now being in possession of the Elder Wand – as high noon finally arrives at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. The chosen one, Harry - along with best friends Hermione and Ron - are in a race against time as they attempt to search out and destroy the remaining Horcruxes. If only it were all that simple…

THE VERDICT: Having proven himself a steady hand since taking over Potter helming duties with 2007’s The Order of the Phoenix, Brit director David Yates delivers a fittingly rousing finale to the most successful movie franchise of all time. The kids are still just all right (Matthew Lewis nonetheless getting to shine as unexpected hero Neville), but you really can’t fault the likes of Fiennes, Gambon, Rickman and Hinds here. The Hogwarts-destroying final battle sees Yates calling on all the powers of CGI to fine effect too, meaning fans will no doubt give this highly-charged, highly emotional farewell 9 3/4 out of 10. The more sane and sedate will see it as just another big blockbuster crash, bang, wallop. Either way, this is a film that does pretty much everything it’s supposed to do...

A fitting farewell for all the zillions of Harry Potter fans; not the best HP movie but one of the best.

I'm not a Harry Potter superfan but I really enjoyed this, a great standalone movie I thought.

It's a pleasant irony that, just as the first installments of Rowling's oeuvre were better suited to page than screen, the final installments have reversed the relationship.

A visually rich movie that has pretty much all the payoffs the fans of this series could ask for. The 3D isn't bad but after seeing Transformers native version really shows that post-processing just doesn't cut it. Having read the books I couldn't help but be a bit bored by the film, I'm glad they tweaked the ending as the source's was quite underwhelming. I think that the inevitable marathon viewings will make this film work better. A great finale for fans but for the casual viewer I'm not sure they'll enjoy as much.

Fantastic ending to an amazing series of films, There is really no need to tell you what it's about. Just know this. They ended it extremely well and the movie has done the books justice.

I gave it an extra star for making me cry, but it's worth the tears. In a time frame of just over a day the pace races, but you are emotionally enthralled throughout. As someone who read the books religiously I was not disappointed, and what more could you ask?

At long last - the final finale! The film brings everything together and for once I don't fell it's lacking vital aspects from the book. Action packed all the way through due to the sneaky franchises attempts at making big buck by splitting it into two parts means this finale installments answers all remaining questions! The question is - does JK Rowling have more stories planned for those 19 years before the final scene?!?

Alright I can see where the hype is coming from and to be fair I can see why its received from its fanbase, but I still find the DH,Pt II like almost all HP films almost impenetrable to outsiders.
