Bertram Pincus is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy, who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen.

In different hands, this could have been forgettably saccharine fare, but Gervais' genius and an excellent cast of bit players turn it into solidly acerbic entertainment.

Ricky Gervais normally annoys the hell out of me but he is perfect for this movie as he is playing himself and it works very well. Greg Kinnear proves again that he's great at comedy. Overall an enjoyable comedy with a well written script, and one for all the family
