After 10 years in prison, Driver has a singular focus - to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he's finally on his mission...but with two men on his trail - a veteran cop just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman with a flair for the art of killing and a newfound worthy opponent. Movies.ie Critic Review

Like a bat out of hell – or, to be more precise, an ex-con out of prison – the man known only as Driver (Johnson) has a mission on his mind. It involves a revenge killing, and driving his car very, very, very fast. So he can gun down those men who gunned down his brother 10 years ago. And that, blissfully, is pretty much it.

THE VERDICT: Although a relief to see Johnson steer away from his toothless Disney outings for a return to the early raw power outings that made his name, Faster is the ultimate one-track film. Which is both its blessing and its curse. Hollywood has been re-embracing such B-movie madness of late, and Faster is only hampered by the presence of former Southern mystic and ex-movie star Billy Bob Thornton. The twat. Oh, and the redemption theme that kicks in way too early.

Just ok. I like The Rock but wasn't his best so far. Would have liked a bit more action but an ok way to kill a couple of hours.

One of Dwayne's better films, just showing how unbelievably hard this lad is.

While you have to like the fact that they try to do something a bit different with this action film, this just never gets going. None of the 3 plots really works well, and it's just too dull in places for an action movies. But it does get a second star for having a couple of nice surprises, that at least makes it worth a watch.

It gets 2 stars for effort. I was initially intrigued from the beginning as I had no idea what was going on, but once the first elements of the story line started to piece together the film became all to predictable. For once, I haven't cringed at a performance by Johnson, I thought he was "ok" in the role, but still he wasn't really given much of a challenge outside his usual sit there and look like a bad-ass routine. Thornton was easily the movies biggest downfall, oh god was a spanner he is. His acting was horrid, and I didn't believe anything he said/did in anyway. Bad choice there casting directory. Overall the redemption thing kicked in far too soon...I liked the whole idea that he was thinking about being nice, then it would flash to images of his brother getting killed, and he would remember what he's doing. The ending was terribly predictable and unsurprising. All in all is watchable, and for the first 10 minutes is actually quite exciting, but still above factors let it down.

The Rock finally gets back to his element (showing lots of muscle and intense looks ) in one of his fast offerings (Fast Five's coming up next). See it in the cinema first or else you will, and should, feel guilty about slumping on your couch while one fit & healthy guy (Killer) is chasing the 'Driver'. Adrenaline-fueled and fast-paced, the flick avoids much gratuitous violence. The killings are quick & (relatively) clean.

Glad to see "The Rock" getting back to some action after being mired in the sugary sweet Disney gloop he's sadly starred in recently. This movie tries to be a lot of things that its its not ... like smart, deep, soulful and suspenseful, but comes woefully short. The director throws in some visual flourishes, almost Tarantinoesque) in the beginning and the film starts out the gate fast paced and action packed ... then discards that style for the rest of the movie, slowing down to a crawl by the end. The performances are flat and by the numbers by Thornton and Gugino and you can see the role for Johnson was trying to evoke a quite mystery air about his character like "The man with no name" but ends up coming off as a butch version of "The Bride" from Kill Bill more than anything else. Wait for the DVD.

Not bad. Decent action, and the Rock is always badass!
